Transport from recyclable materials

In Newton Class this term, our IPC topic has been looking at journeys from A to B.

As part of their homework, children were asked to design and make a mode of transport from everyday, recyclable materials.

All the children worked so hard to produce some fantastic models, all from materials that we can recycle.

Well done Newton Class…

We have had a very busy few weeks in Newton Class.  Our first day back after half term, we were lucky enough to have a trip to the cinema to watch Finding Dory.  All of the children represented St Catherine’s extremely well and we are very proud of them all.

Following on from our cinema trip we did some fantastic description writing, trying to incorporate adjectives, nouns and noun phrases as well as our basic skills . We enjoyed learning all about Guy Fawkes too.   We also have been looking at the famous moon landing and finding out about Neil Armstrong.  We were all really enthusiastic about this and  produced some fantastic questions that we would have loved to have asked him!

Our Maths has been based around 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.  We also looked at pattern sequences, directions and movement.

Today we all marked the 2 minute silence and stood with our poppies with pride.  We made some poppy wreaths and had an art afternoon, drawing pictures of poppies in the fields.dscn4531

Autumn Term

Here in Newton Class we have started the Autumn term building on our knowledge of numbers.  We have been using the dienes to help show how we make ‘tens’ and ‘ones’ and to help us recognise the place value of each number.  We have also been going ‘ruler crazy’ and started looking at careful measuring in the classroom environment.  We then went on to compare and order different lengths.

In English we have been practising writing our sentences, using simple punctuation.  We have been editing our work to check for capital letters, full stops and different ways of improving our sentences!

This week we have been working hard to make our outside learning environment useable to help with our learning.  We have planted lots of new plants and have made a ‘Bug Hotel’ to hopefully entice lots of new creatures into our garden!  We look forward to welcoming them to our garden.
