We love being in Wrens!

Wow what another busy but fun week in Wren’s Class.

We have been practicing our times tables on TT Rockstars. This is such a good game for us, we love being rockstars! TT Rockstar gives children self confidence, recognition and motivation to improve. The classroom atmosphere is electrified and students can’t wait to see their scores move up the rockstars ranks! This approach not only improves recall speed of pupils, but also boosts their confidence and reduces math anxiety.
Everyday we have our RWI session. Our lesson always starts with speed sounds, recapping and reading a range of previously taught sounds and identifying them in words too. We are then introduced to a new sound and practice saying, reading and spelling the new sound in words instantly. We love the RWI books as the stories always make us laugh. They help us to read for fluency, comprehension, and expression. We read in partners and take turns after reading a few sentences each. We use the lollipop pointers to help us follow the words correctly.

Congratulations to our Times Table Champions this week. Keep learning them, it is such a great skill to be able to recall the facts instantly.

Multiplication madness!

In Math’s this week we have been looking at multiplication and repeated addition. Repeated addition can help children think their way through simple multiplication word problems. Our multiplication stories gave the children an opportunity to draw what the multiplication would look like in pictures, using the ‘x’ symbol and repeated addition.

In English, the children have been working hard identifying and using exclamation marks. The children looked at various texts to identify and talk about why the exclamation mark had been used. They then designed a poster for our pond area, using exclamation sentences.

A big well done to our stars of the week this week. Every Friday, when we choose our two stars of the week, we always struggle to narrow it down to just two children! Fantastic attitudes towards all areas of learning from all in Wren’s Class. We look forward to another week of our fun learning.

Wow what a busy week in Wrens!

Another week has gone and we have all had fun!

We finished our money unit in math’s this week and the children certainly enjoyed showing us what they could do. By the end of the week we could add different amounts of money, select the correct coins and work out how to give change!

We found time to fit in some Yoga this week for our Brain breaks. Yoga helps children to manage their anxiety and helps to improve children’s emotional regulation and self-esteem. It also helps to increase children’s body awareness and mindfulness, whilst enhancing concentration and memory.

We started our RE unit this week. We read the story of David and Goliath and looked at the Jewish Symbol. David was really brave throughout the story and was able to fight Goliath, but someone gave him the strength and David knew he would be ok. Can you guess who helped David defeat Goliath? We each made our own Star of David.

In Science we made some rain gauges. We placed them around in the outside environment so next week we can measure the rainfall each day.

Say hello to our ‘Times table champions’ this week. They have been working hard on recalling instant facts from the 10 times tables. Excellent work and smiles all round.

Climate Zones

This week we have been shopping. We have been working hard to combine totals and find the correct coins to pay for items.

We’ve also started to explore the different climate zones around the world and have begun to collaboratively represent them. We were shocked to find out that The North Pole isn’t really land at all AND The North and South Poles are in fact deserts. Can you explain these facts in more detail?

Money Matters!

All the children in Wren’s Class this week were back and ready to start our Maths topic on Money.

Money is an important topic for all pupils to learn. We have been counting in pounds and pence, selecting money and learning how to make the same amount in different ways.

Throughout the day we like to take brain breaks. Brain breaks help us to reduce stress, anxiety and frustration. They can help children to focus and be more productive. Short brain breaks can also help children to self regulate and be more aware of when they are loosing track of what they are doing. Our favourite brain breaks are when Mrs Norris puts some music and dance on for us all to enjoy!
